Yakutia (Sakha Republic) is a north-eastern region of Russian Federation. A large part of Yakutia lies above the Polar Circle. Yakutsk, the capital city of Yakutia, is located in the very middle of the republic and its coordinates are: 62.034°N, 129.743°E (map)

Yakutia (Sakha) is located in eastern Siberia and stretches to the Henrietta Islands in the far north and is washed by the Laptev and Eastern Siberian Seas of the Arctic Ocean. New Siberian Islands are a part of the republic's territory. Yakutia spans three different time zones: from +0900 (YAKT)/+1000 (YAKST) upto +1100 (MAGT)/+1200 (MAGST)

Yakutia is about 9 time zones to the east from Europe or 15 from the U.S. On the other hand Yakutia is just 6 time zones to the west from Alaska, one day ahead though. Yakutia shares the same time zone with Japan but located as far to the north as possible.

Is it winter all year round over there?

Not exactly. Although winters are very cold in Yakutia (Average January temperature: −50°C), there are hot and sunny days in summer. Sometimes temperature goes up to +40°C (104°F).
