The Evenks or Evenki (formerly known as Tungus or Tongus) are a Tungusic people of Northern Asia. In Russia, the Evenks are recognized as one of the Indigenous peoples of the Russian North, with a population of 35,527 (2002 Census). About 2% of Yakutia's population are Evenki. Evenki have their own language, customs and deep reach culture. There is a proposal at Meta-Wiki to establish Evenki's own Wikipedia.
