KHABAROVSK, September 30 (Itar-Tass) -- A new Russian plane An- 140 has performed a first flight form Yakutsk to Khabarovsk on Saturday with passengers on board.

An-140 YakutiaManagers of the Yakutavia Company and the plane crew met journalists as soon as the plane landed in Khabarovsk. The An- 140 surpasses all known planes of the same class by its flying and technical parameters, it meets the international noise and ecological standards. The plane can take 52 passengers on board, it can take off and land on short runways, including ground runways, and economically uses fuel.

The flight range with a maximum load on board is 2,500 kilometers; the speed is 537 kilometers per hour (333 MPH). The plane recommended itself very well during test flights held in Yakutia under extremely low air temperatures.

The new An- 40 will replace ageing planes of the An- 24 class and other old models on domestic air routes.

The plane built in Samara has part of the equipment on board produced by Ukrainian plants and the Iranian company HEZA. At present, five similar planes are being built in Samara.

Yakutia intends to buy several An- 140 planes, representatives of the Yakutavia Company said.

Is it winter all year round over there?

Not exactly. Although winters are very cold in Yakutia (Average January temperature: −50°C), there are hot and sunny days in summer. Sometimes temperature goes up to +40°C (104°F).
