The Sakha Republic, Yakutia, will stage an international auction of mammoth tusks and other remains on Friday, 11/30/2007 the fourth event of this kind there. According to Yakutia’s department of business affairs, officials are currently performing all necessary preparations, including evaluating the items for sale, particularly their quality and price.

The film crew of By The Will Of Genghis Khan, headed by Andrei Borisov, the film producer, Minister of Culture of Yakutia, left for Khakasia Republic for a film expedition on September, 6. The project organizers reported that the shooting would continue in Khakass Valley of Tsars and then move to the Altay Mountains, to the banks of the Katun River.

17th Century Mummy Found in Yakutia Print E-mail

Specialists of the Sakha State University and scientists from France have found a mummy at the digging site nearby Boltongo, Churapchinsky ulus.

The finding at once attracted genetics, archeologists, anthropologists, and geographers, including those from Strasburg and Paris. They managed to ascertain that the mummy is a body of a young woman buried in the 17th century. Her belongings are in a good condition.

The mummy was transported to Yakutsk by a helicopter. Now the scientists are going to find out the reason of death, the diseases, the way of the life, and the food of the found body.

Is it winter all year round over there?

Not exactly. Although winters are very cold in Yakutia (Average January temperature: −50°C), there are hot and sunny days in summer. Sometimes temperature goes up to +40°C (104°F).
